KATIE HAMILTON

Where were you before you joined and became a client of our gym? How were you feeling?

Sluggish and over weight. I have always had positive self esteem. I look in the mirror and I could be 300-350 lbs and visually I think I look great. But I was noticing my knees hurt.  I had just come off some knee surgeries and I wasn’t mobile.  I would go to grab something or climb up on something and my body hurt.  And that was equated to the weight I was carrying.

What was your turning point that you decided to take action?

After knowing I had to have some knee surgeries and knowing that if I went into surgery and out of surgery where I was at, it wouldn’t go well.  Going into surgery set me back already further than I was initially,  and would have been something I would not have been able to recover from.  Especially if I did not have someone who could bring me out of it (surgeries) in a very thoughtful slow process.

Why had you not joined in the past?

Cost was an issue. I had gone to some boot camps and stuff but my sister was coming here.  She explained to me that obviously you could go to a group class and do squats and push ups in a boot campish program and eventually you would lose weight. But if your body hurts and you don’t have a program that is necessarily fit to you and your abilities you wont succeed, you will most likely stop. But your program, at Epic Fitness, fits the person.

katiefrontweb

What happened when you joined?  What surprised you?

Epic Fitness’s ability to model a program directly to me and my needs; injuries, weight, chronic problems, what have you. They could modify the program exactly to me and keep me moving forward to continue achieving milestones without injuries. I went home sore but I never went home hurt.

What were some of the biggest changes you noticed during our recent transformation challenge?

I liked the challenge because I am competitive and my sister is competitive, so when you are held accountable by your peers and you go all out you will see results.  But when you see some significate results after going for 30 days it really makes you want to work that much harder.

How do you feel now?

GREAT!  I have lost 15 lbs and that is 80% on my eating plans. If I want a slice of pizza, I have a slice of pizza.  But your body feels so good and you feel so much better that tend to reach for a salad instead of the pizza. As a whole I just feel better, emotionally and physically.

MARY LYNN CORTEZ

MarylynnCFrontNEW

Where were you before you joined and became a client of our gym? How were you feeling?

Mary Lynn:  I was overweight, feeling sluggish, and not liking myself very much. I really couldn’t visualize losing the weight at all.

What was your turning point that you decided to take action?

Mary Lynn:  It wasn’t my turning point, it was my husbands.  My husband came here and said he just knew if I found a place I enjoyed, it would trigger something and I would get back into it.

I always loved exercise but something happened and I just turned it off. I would toy with it go for a month here and there, but I just couldn’t get back into it.  I came here pretty reluctantly but something clicked.  After the first strategy session I felt like Epic Fitness was really going to help me get back into exercise.

Why had you not joined in the past?

Mary Lynn:  I had joined other gyms in the past because I had always worked out on my own.  I have run marathons, done bike rides, exercise tapes and had good results from them.  Then something just turned me off from exercise.   And its not like my weight never fluctuated.  Its always been up and down, but I would exercise through it all.

MaryLynneCnew

What happened when you joined?   What surprised you?

Mary Lynn:  I like the fact that the Epic Fitness team shows me the right way to do things.  I always liked exercise, in fact I was a certified aerobic instructor and taught for many years.  I like that it is a much smaller gym, the coaches  help me do things right, and I don’t feel like I was going to get injured.  And because I was over weight everything was hard at first!

What were some of the biggest changes you noticed during our recent New Year New Year challenge?

Mary Lynn:  Little things.  I felt like I walked better and I was able to move better with out struggling.  Writing my food down really helped it kept me accountable.

How do you feel now?

Mary Lynn:  I feel great! I feel a lot better but I know I still have work to do. I notice myself getting stronger in things I couldn’t do before I can do now. I live in a hilly area and before I would go up the hills stiff legged but now the hills feel pretty good. I don’t feel like I do a lot of cardio here but what ever Epic does helps!

Where were you before you joined and became a client of our gym? How were you feeling?

I was a person who thought I knew how to keep in shape. I would go to the gym and get on an elliptical and hit the machines. I felt good that I was doing this but really didn’t get the results I ultimately wanted. I felt like I was going in circles trying to get to where I wanted to be.

What was your turning point that you decided to take action?

The year prior I watched on the sidelines so to speak. My good friend, Toby did the New Year New You challenge. I saw the results he got so it made me a bit interested, so I mentioned if they did it again I would try it out. The next year rolled around and he asked if I wanted to do the challenge, as I am a competitive person. I thought it couldn’t be that difficult to go to the gym each morning. So I said yes I would do the challenge not thinking too much about it.

Why had you not joined in the past?

I always thought I knew what to do when working out. I had a couple personal training sessions in the past and figured I was good to go. I would lose a little bit, tone up just a little bit but nothing drastic. I felt fine with that and figured it would take time to get my desired results.

What happened when you joined Epic Fitness?   What surprised you?

Right from the beginning I felt the support and comfort of the trainers and other members of the gym. When I would lose form they were right there to let me know and correct me. I was given a nutritional guidebook with a diet to follow and more. I followed that diet to the “T” the first week and after I felt pretty good that I could follow it. I started to get more comfortable with the ingredients and the timing of eating so I changed it up using the same ingredients and meal planning.

The biggest surprise was how difficult it was NOT to cheat on the diet. It is an entire lifestyle change in a good way. I set my goals pretty high for the challenge, as I wanted to lose 15 pounds and 5% body fat. I never knew how much work it would really take. When I set my mind to something I make it a mission to accomplish it. I lost 13 pounds and 2.7% by the mid-way point (week 3) and I felt I worked pretty hard, and I did my cardio on my non-strength training days for an hour sprinting and jogging while I walked my dogs.

RobertBfrontB&Anew

What were some of the biggest changes you noticed during our recent New Year New Year challenge?

After the week 3 weigh-in I felt pretty good about the pace I was on.  Then week 3 ended and I weighed myself and I didn’t lose any weight. That crushed me as felt I was defeated.  I just wanted to cheat,  but good thing for my accountable buddies!  Anytime I felt a low they would help me not cheat and were quite motivating. I made it through!  I went back to the week 1 and 2 diet when I felt the most progress and kept up with my sprints.

How do you feel now?

Words cannot describe how I feel now. I can sit Indian style.  Yes, that was one of my goals I was never able too do. I am not out of breath doing simple activities and feel stronger in the process.  I have lost over 20 pounds during the challenge.  I am faster, stronger and way more agile. I play a ton of softball and all of this has equated to be being a better ball player.  I hit with more power I run faster and all around feel fantastic.  Thank you Epic Fitness, I could not have done it with out you.

Where were you before you joined and became a client of our gym? How were you feeling?

I had gym memberships in the past but never knew what I was doing once in the gym. All those machines are quite intimidating. Which in turn made me lose interest rather quickly.  I am not one to hop on a bike or treadmill and do the same exercise for 30+ min either.  I was feeling like getting healthy was going to be too much work physically and mentally.

What was your turning point that you decided to take action?

Straight up, it was my friends and clients that had already come over the Dark Side (affectionately known as Epic Fitness) that were urging me to make the leap and frankly peer pressuring me.  It was a group effort to get me kicking and cursing into the gym.

Why had you not joined in the past? (what excuses)

Not enough time was always my go-to excuse.  Honestly I just didn’t want to but in the back of my head the idea that I wasn’t getting any younger was weighing on me like my extra 50# was weighing on me physically.

What happened when you joined? What surprised you?

How unbelievably do-able the routines are.  I refrain from saying easy because it is wasn’t easy.  But it is completely do-able!

What were some of the biggest changes you noticed during our recent New Year New Year challenge?

The changes crept up on me actually.  Weight and body changes were a given but it was the reduction in headaches and the overall feeling that I can take on the world on a daily basis that resonate with me.

MeganKfrontB&A

 How do you feel now?

I now feel comfortable being able to run from slow moving zombies when the apocalypse happens and I now have the upper body strength & core strength to stab them in the head if needed.  Honestly I am feeling the benefits of including a targeted training program designed specifically for Me in so many positive ways. Headaches that seem to hit me from out of the blue are nearly a thing of the past. Endurance to get all the things done everyday is amazing to have.  Overall mood has been improved.  I look forward to more improvement physically and mentally.  Lastly, and I can’t believe I am going to say this, but I miss the days that I don’t make it over to the Dark Side. I simply can not see myself without Epic Fitness in my weekly schedule anymore.

Where were you before you joined and became a client of our gym? How were you feeling?

I wasn’t exercising (except the remote control). I felt sluggish, bloated. Less confident, weaker, unmotivated, lazy, and depressed to an extent.

What was your turning point that you decided to take action?

The “New Year New You Challenge” a 3rd person was needed for Katie and Tamara’s team.  Having the community and the accountability of a team motivated me.

Why had you not joined in the past?

I belonged to Vasa, but wasn’t going there. Excuses- hard to find time, work schedule, money.

CamilleAfrontB&A

What happened when you joined? What surprised you?

I was kind of disgusted with myself, initially, that I’d gotten to the point I was at. But I knew if I was patient, stuck with it I would see results pretty quickly.  And after a few weeks I was feeling MUCH better.

What were some of the biggest changes you noticed during our recent New Year New You challenge?

Physically- I lost weight, gained muscle, lost inches, gained strength

Emotionally/Mentally -I am stronger, I feel way better about myself, I feel like I’m accomplishing something, and I have more energy.

How do you feel now?

I feel tons better! I have more energy, I have more confidence, better posture, accomplish more in my day to day, and have a much better attitude!

LAUREN MEALY

LaurenMsideB&A

Where were you before joining our gym? And how were you feeling?

I was running and biking but was always totally intimidated by any weight equipment. I knew I need strength training but I was afraid of learning how. I knew it would really help me in my running and biking, which I really loved. I was just to scared to try it on my own. I was feeling like I had good cardio but I was pretty weak over all.

What was your actual turning point when you decided to take action?

We came here for Dan, cause Dan really need to lose weight. I kind of was like “I am not over weight; I don’t need to really worry about it” But I thought about health as more than being skinny its being strong. I want to be strong. Its not just for Dan its for me too!

Was there any reason or excuses why you hadn’t joined a gym in the past?

Mostly I was intimidated.  I had done cross fit briefly and it was just really over whelming. There wer all these really intense people. I felt overwhelmed but here it was a much more supportive environment, less competitive.  Not like you are trying to out do the person next to you. Everyone here is just trying to get better. So I liked that.

LaurenM

What happened when you joined and what really surprised you?

I was surprised how much I enjoyed strength training! I thought this kind of stuff was something I was just going to jump through the hoops to get better at the things I loved, which is biking mostly. But I realized I really enjoyed doing things that weren’t steady state cardio for 2 hours. This could be fun in its own right and its been fun!

What were some of the changes you noticed in the most recent New Year New You? Challenge.

I noticed how much better I felt. Especially the nutrition aspect, which was something I neglected, because I wasn’t over weight and I didn’t have to worry about it. But when I actually cleaned up my eating I felt much better over all and how much more energy I had. I can feel the difference already when I start a climb while biking, I feel much stronger I get less fatigued.  Upper body too, I used to get a lot of upper body fatigue being crouched over on the bike. Having some muscle tone has really helped me a lot.

Overall how do you feel now?

We kind of went crazy for a week or two after it was all over. But then we realized it wasn’t even fun, we didn’t even feel good. Why are we eating all this junk food? We back slid a little but now we are back on. We just feel better!

TOBY CAMP

TobyCsideB&A

Where were you before you joined and became a client of our gym? How were you feeling?

I thought I was feeling pretty good. I was working out on my own at home doing a lot of weight training and cardio. I was having problems with my knees so my wife suggested I go check out Epic Fitness, so I came out and started working out with the Epic Fitness team. I started learning more proper techniques on weight training and cardio.

What was your turning point that you decided to take action?

My knees! I felt like wasn’t going to be able to be very active. I was trying to squats and leg work at home but it was just too much I couldn’t do it.

Why had you not joined in the past?

I have always been skeptical of gyms they have a reputation of having a lot of meat heads and I just felt I could do more on my own.

What happened when you joined? What surprised you?

The whole Epic Team and the way they work together to give you the right technique, nutrition, and how they helped me overcome my knee injuries.

What were some of the biggest changes you noticed during our recent New Year New Year challenge?

My sleep was better. My energy is always up higher on a workout day and when I am eating properly. Since the challenge I have had cheat meals I have felt more tired afterwards. I really notice when I have a proper nutrition plan and how much better I feel when that is paired with the program they give me at Epic Fitness.

TobyCfrontB&A

How do you feel now?

I have felt amazing!  I am playing softball at a higher level, I am stronger and more powerful and now I don’t ever think about my past knee injuries because I am pain free!

TAMARA SHAPIRO

TamShapfrontB&A

Where were you before you joined and became a client of our gym? How were you feeling?

Before I became a client at Epic Fitness I did not have a regular exercise schedule. I had a 2-year-old and a 7 mo. old old while also working a full time job.  I was working out maybe 3 days a week on my lunch, going to the gym on my own and taking a Pilates or yoga class here and there. Before I had my children I either worked out or ran 5-6 days a week. I was feeling like I needed a change and support from a trainer to figure out how to maximize my workout with the limited time I had to dedicate to exercise in my schedule.

What was your turning point that you decided to take action?

I was about to make what I felt was a huge life change and this was the turning point for me to decide to join. I had made the decision to leave a job I had worked for 12 years, a job and life I loved, to stay home and focus my time and energy on my family. I knew if I was going to stay mentally and physically healthy I needed to have a consistent and supported workout regimen. I started with Epic a few months before I left my job. The Epic Fitness team made an individualized program for me that allowed me to meet my goals. Epic Fitness gave me the support I needed to stay motivated and also enjoy my workout.

Why had you not joined in the past?

I had not joined in the past because I have always worked out and have completed many workout “boot camps” and group training programs.  I thought I knew what I was doing on my own. Epic Fitness proved me wrong.

What happened when you joined? What surprised you?

When I joined I was impressed with the individual attention and the knowledgeable friendly staff.  I have always been at gyms where the program was the same for everyone in the group. Epic is a leap up from those gyms. They worked with me to set goals and encourage me to do what is necessary to meet these goals. My program is just for me and changes regularly to meet my needs. I also value the positive encouragement and the consistent feedback I receive during my workout that ensures me I am doing the movements correctly and getting the maximum benefit.

TamShapsideB&A

What were some of the biggest changes you noticed during our recent New Year New Year challenge?

I had been working out 4-5 days a week for about 9 months when I joined the New Year New You Challenge, I felt I was in good shape and healthy when I started. I was not confident I would be able make a notable change in 6 weeks. I was again proved wrong. I had developed some unhealthy snacking habits staying home with my children and the detailed eating plan changed that for me. I adjusted my work out to 5-6 times a week, but I believe the big difference came from the eating plan provided through the challenge.  Other than some of the unhealthy snacking habits I also thought I knew what to eat to stay strong and healthy. I followed the eating guide 99% percent and I learned how to eat if I wanted to gain muscle and stay lean. This made all the difference. Another helpful part of the guide was the description of amounts of protein, how many OZ or grams and example recipes.  I would not have been able to make these changes with out their Nutrition plan and support. (and my sister who was on my team and cooked most of my food every week).

How do you feel now?

After the challenge I feel much stronger and certainly notice a higher level of energy. This again helped me meet my original goals to maintain the mental and physical health I need to take care of my children and have the energy to do all I want to do for them. This is most important to me. Thank you Epic for supporting me through these life changes. You have made all the difference and helped me succeed! I am a better mom and wife because of your program.
